Pondering a possible mistake

Ok.. so I got the older kids cell phones!

What have I done??? Just one more thing for me to worry about. Will they text their friends 3000 times a month vs. the 300 their plan allows? Will they use them before 7 and run up all the minutes on the family share plan?? Granted the fact that my oldest just got his learners permit and will be driving alone in a meer 5 months I figured it was time. I want to be able to call him and know where he is when he takes off on his own...

Hmm rule number 345 Do not talk and drive. Maybe that should be rule 1 but I can be only so hypocritical .. I talk on the phone, mess with my iPod, use my blackberry and drive all at the same time. Sorry Sis but I still do that.

So how is everyone? Me.. I made it threw my mid terms ok.. grades are doing well.
I spent a wonderful birthday with my dear sister who is now just as OLD as I am! We had a wonderful time at her birthday celebration. Well at least I did.. I am sure she did as well.

We are doing our treat day later .. last week was just exteremly busy and hectic for both of us so we will do that at a later time.
I have knitted absolutely NOTHING lately.. but who the heck has time! Heck I don't even have time to spend 3 minutes to let you guys know I am still alive.

SMMOOOCCHHHIIIIEEESSS I MISS YOU ALL!

  1. You should be able to check online to see how many minutes the kids have used & how many text messages they sent. Just make it real clear to them that the minute they go over, you're taking back the phones for the remainder of the month. Mine have been pretty good with theirs. Nowadays, I think they're a necessity. Just my 2 cents...

  2. How did your sister manage to catch up with you? If you used to be older, aren't you always kinda older?

Not that you should mind -- being an older sibling is a good thing!

  3. Ahhh...so there you are! Glad to hear all is going well. Over here it is a criminal offense to drive and talk on your cell phone at the same time. It's a good thing really, but then I got to thinking, nobody minded truckers and their CB radios did they? hmm...more food for thought ...

  4. Hey you! Gosh, it is SO good to hear from you, as I've missed you very much. I'm with Monkling; keeping track online makes it much easier to control the usage of the phones. Good job on the school/homework/grades/all other school-ness! Big smooch right back atcha!

  6. You need to set a good example for the little ones regarding tech toys and driving. That's so wrong that you do that and drive. That's an accident waiting to happen.
I am STILL younger than you, Missy!

  7. Hey...well I have intimate knowlege of cell phones..happens to be my indusry... how old are your kids?? If you haven't already call in to your service provider and ask them for a website or number you can call to check up on minutes used so far during the month that way you can keep track..don't wait for the bill because once it is printed there is basically nothing they can do for you.... Don't be afraid to take the cell's away if they misuse them...

I will tell you 50% of the moms I talk to at work have children who are more then responsible enough to care for the phones and 50% have children who can't handle the responsibility...

three things to watch for...(tell your kids NOT to unless you got a package for it)
    #1)Downloads =they add up quickly
#2)Mobile browser..pay per use is REALLY expensive (like $50/mb expensive)
#3)text messaging it is easy to get caught up in text...

Email me if you need any advice or if you need ot know what to ask for from your service provider. Happy to offer advice if you need it.

  8. My kids both have pre paid cell phone. We got them net 10 so all of their minutes are only 10 cents. They only have 300 minutes every two months and if they use that they are on their own. We live too far out to actually use them at home so the minutes usually last.
By the way....some of us are missing your smooches!
